1 killed in suspected drunk-driving accident

An Oct. 19 accident in Woodbridge involving an alleged drunk driver claimed the life of a 25-year-old man, according to the New Jersey State Police. Reportedly, the event occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike at about 4:09 a.m., when a southbound 2002 Volkswagen Jetta rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was traveling in the truck lanes near mile marker 93.5.

Accident victims cause impact from New Jersey across the U.S.

In an effort to create public awareness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently published statistics about motor vehicle accident injuries in this country and the medical costs involved. The effect on the health care system and society as a whole is evident. National data shows more than 7,000 people each day or about 2.5 million per year are admitted to emergency rooms because of injuries suffered in a car accident. Almost 200,000 of those individuals were also hospitalized. The CDC would like to see more action aimed at reducing those numbers.

Warehouse owner charged in electrocution case

A South Brunswick warehouse owner is now facing criminal charges in connection with an alleged electrocution of an employee after being criminally charged in the matter on Oct. 6, authorities state. According to police, the owner, a 38-year-old resident of Canada, had claimed there was no electricity running to a machine by which the employee was found unconscious. The owner claimed the employee had simply suffered a heart attack.

New Jersey crashes take toll on economy

Medical expenses, lost wages and destruction of property that results from auto accidents costs New Jersey residents a significant amount of money each year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, claimed monetary losses from auto accidents between 2007 and 2012 grew at an annual rate of 8 percent. Although the rate of bodily injuries declined, the expenses associated with auto accidents continued to make a considerable financial burden on the injured.

Truck driver killed in New Jersey Turnpike accident

A New Jersey tractor-trailer accident resulted in the death of one man and left another injured on Sept. 26. The accident occurred around 5 a.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike in Ridgefield Park near the entrance to the George Washington Bridge.
