New Jersey man killed in garbage truck accident

At the beginning of February, a New Jersey man was struck by a garbage truck in Bayonne. Sadly, the victim did not survive. When a truck accident results in injury or death, police will work diligently to determine the cause of the crash and liability. In this case, if the garbage truck driver is found to have been negligent in his or her actions, he or she may be held both criminally and civilly responsible for this man's death.

According to reports, at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 3, a man -- whose age and name have not been released to the public -- was struck by a garbage truck. The truck driver is said to have been traveling southbound on Avenue C when he hit the man while between West 54th and 55th streets. It is unknown if the victim died at the scene of the crash or if he was transported to medical care before succumbing to his injuries.

The area where the accident occurred was closed for some time while investigators and clean up crews worked the scene. At this time, it has not been reported if any charges are pending in this case. Few other details have been released about this incident.

When a loved one is killed in a truck accident, the emotional and financial effects on surviving family members can be devastating. According to the state of New Jersey, it may be possible for this victim's family to seek compensation for their losses. Wrongful death and any other applicable legal claims may be filed against the driver and his or her employer in an effort to seek damages. An experienced attorney can assist with the filing and litigating of such claims in civil court.
