2 Killed in Alleged DWI Accident in New Jersey

The driver responsible for tragic car accident that killed two individuals in New Jersey last August has been charged. Authorities claim he was driving while intoxicated when the crash occurred. If this is the case, the surviving family members of the victims of this alleged DWI accident may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses.

According to reports, a 29-year-old male has been charged with vehicular homicide nearly a year after he lost control of his vehicle, struck a jogger and rolled his truck — killing a passenger in his automobile. This incident occurred in the Mount Holly area. The victims of this incident were a 29-year-old woman who was out for a run when she was hit and killed, and a passenger in the truck — a 31-year-old male — who was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The individual deemed responsible for this wreck was initially charged with DWI and drug possession. The vehicular homicide charge was just filed June 24. This individual was arrested, but has been released on bail which was set at $150,000. It is unknown if any court dates have been scheduled regarding this matter.

It is not uncommon for a DWI accident to result in fatality, as it did in this particular case. Thankfully, according to New Jersey laws, the surviving family members of the victims may have legal recourse. Wrongful death claims may be filed in an effort to seek damages for any recoverable economic and non-economic losses. Those claims which are successfully navigated may be awarded monetary judgments in civil court.
