New Jersey Car Accident Involving Bus Claims 1 Life, Injures 20

New Jersey highways can be dangerous places considering the amount of traffic they receive. A recent car accident involving three cars and a bus sent 20 people to the hospital and claimed the life of one young woman. Authorities are still investigating the crash to determine what caused the accident.

The collision happened on Interstate 80 near Parsippany in Morris County. Apparently, the Adirondack Trailways bus had more than 24 people on board when it collided with three other cars. One of those passengers, a 21-year-old woman, was ejected from the bus and onto the highway. She was declared deceased at the scene.

The woman was apparently a college student who was returning home when the accident occurred. Of the other bus passengers, 20 were taken to a local medical center. Most received treatment and were released; however, three of the victims remain in the hospital. One is still listed in critical condition, and the other two are reported to be in serious condition. The wreck closed down both lanes of I-80 for hours.

Should authorities determine the bus driver was responsible for the New Jersey car accident, those injured may file personal injury suits against the driver and his or her employer, seeking damages. Likewise, the surviving members of the young woman’s family can file a wrongful death claim. Only after negligence has been established on the part of the bus driver will a court adjudicate claims for damages and award a monetary judgment to the victims to help cover medical expenses, end-of-life expenses, if applicable, and other financial losses arising from the accident.
