The prompt action of various emergency services in New Jersey prevented a tragedy on a recent Thursday morning. According to an incident report, the hazmat team of Middlesex County and firefighters responded to an industrial work site in the township of Edison at approximately 11 a.m. Reportedly, employees of a manufacturer of diesel fuel injection parts were sickened by noxious odors. Emergency workers determined that the toxic fumes came from two leaking 55-gallon drums — one containing a cleaning solvent for motor parts, and the other one leaked kerosene.

EMTs reportedly identified seven workers who experienced dizziness and nausea and administered oxygen. Emergency workers transport one worker who struggled to breathe to the hospital for treatment. After the evacuation, firefighters secured the damaged drums and vented the toxic fumes from the building.
